Entrepreneurs HIP Summit for UNEC Undergraduates

Day:
03
UNN has put in place the first ever Entrepreneurship Summit
Determined to sustain its envied rating, the University of Nigeria in a mobilization effort, aimed at turning things around for her graduates, has put in place the first ever Entrepreneurship Summit, entitled, “preparing students for Employment after Graduation”.
It was the brainchild of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development Research (CEDR) UNN. The summit which was essentially organized to enable our undergraduates as well as other beneficiaries move further in the ladder of human development, economic prosperity and social regeneration, is also a platform through which the prestige of the Nigerian graduate could be restored, especially, at a time when Nigeria's manpower capabilities are suspect.
In his opening remarks, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Chuks E. Ezedum, gave an insight on the summit. He stated that the rationale behind the summit was to empower the undergraduates through the necessary skills acquisition.
In her address, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Enugu Campus, Prof. Rich Umeh, who declared the event open, observed that most of the institutions of Higher learning in Nigeria today have lost their prestige and glory. She maintained that apart from the above, majority of our graduates are not only unemployed, but also unemployable for the simple reason of lack of proficiency.
She charged the undergraduates to join the globalization train by crafting a road map to their economic prosperity. She declared. “…You are expected to make the University proud as you make a difference in the contemporary business world…”
The DVC thanked the Director of the Centre and his staff for delivering on their mandate, while assuring them that the University administration does not lack the push and common sense to do what is right as it strives to restore the dignity of man.
The summit recorded an impressive turn-out as it attracted the following dignitaries. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, represented by Associate Professor, Smart Uchegbu of the Urban and Regional Planning; Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies, Prof. J.U. Ogbuefi; Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Prof,. E. Ndiokwere, among others.
