Veterinary Council of Nigeria Inducts 64 Graduates UNN

The faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka held her 33rd Oath-Taking ceremony of the 2001/2011 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduates on Saturday, 30th June, 2012 at the faculty of Veterinary Medicine Auditorium, UNN.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bartho N. Okolo represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac U. Asuzu applauded the faculty of Veterinary Medicine for being rated as one of the faculties where research was still going on. He advised the inductees to continue to project the image of the University as professionals in the field and be good ambassadors.

Speaking during the ceremony, the President of Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) Prof. G.A.T Ogundipe said that with their license they are now eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Nigeria and therefore urged them to live according to the ethics of the profession.

Furthermore, the Registrar, Veterinary Council of Nigeria, (VCN) Dr. Evon Magnus who administered the Oath said that the ceremony was an affirmation that the inductees have been licensed into the veterinary profession. He urged the inductees to renew their veterinary license every year and be of good conduct.

Further, the president, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Dr. Gani Enahoro admonished them to be vast, vibrate in knowledge in this era of global network and information. He reiterated that veterinary profession was a beautiful profession and no veterinarian will remain unemployed. “There are opened doors of employment for our team of graduates as jobs have been created outside the shores of Nigeria. He encouraged them to be active in the profession and pay their dues.

The dean of the faculty, Prof C.N. Uchendu in his welcome address thanked the dedicated and committed staff who worked assiduously to produce 64 graduates who were about to be inducted into the veterinary profession.

He urged the inductees that with courage, honesty and commitment, they would be able to confront any challenges they might face in the wider world.

Dr. Ezeudu Terry Adaeze a 24 year old lady emerged as the best graduating student. Terry had 11 distinctions out of 13 courses and also got 12 awards out of 17 awards. An ecstatic Terry said she would be an international renowned veterinary professional and an academic. In her speech, she appreciated the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) staff and students for their numerous contributions towards her academic achievement.

In an interview of how she accomplished such a great feat, she said “though it was very stressful and tasking but with hardwork I was able to overcome, hence I encourage all to strive, read and not neglect God”.
